About Pip
Pip: Math Adventure is a math game for iPhone, coming soon to the App Store. This site is where we explain the math behind the game, one short article at a time, with live graphs, worked examples and short videos.
What Pip is
Pip is a small orange character who lives on the Grid. In the game, functions, lines, equations and calculus are puzzles you solve by playing, from your very first line all the way to calculus. It is made for adults who want math to finally make sense. The game is not out yet: join the list and we will tell you the day it lands.
Who writes this site
The articles, graphs and videos are made by the Pip team, the people who make the game. If you find a mistake, have a question, or want a topic explained, write to [email protected]. A real person writes back.
What is on the site
- The blog: 36 short articles in teaching order, from what a function is to the quadratic formula. Each one has a live graph you can move, worked examples, the usual mistakes, three practice questions with answers, a short FAQ and a one-minute video.
- The guides: twelve longer visual guides, one for each world of the game, from functions to calculus.
How we check the math
- Worked examples are solved step by step and checked by putting the answer back into the original equation.
- Practice answers show the working too, so you can see why an answer is right and not only what it is.
- The live graphs are drawn from the same formulas as the written examples, so the picture and the text agree.
- When a mistake is reported, we fix it and update the date shown on the article.
About the videos
Each video is drawn by the same code as the graph on its page. The narration is a computer-generated voice, and every video has captions and a full text transcript on its page, so you can read instead of listen.
